About Tom

Tom Reis has over 20 years’ experience in the marine contracting and diving industries.

He has traveled to Iceland to assist with developing their sea urchin fishery, to South America to provide advice on archaeological shipwreck recovery, and most recently to New Zealand for a much-needed vacation.

In his spare time, Tom can be found out in the shop bringing to life his latest design, voraciously reading about the maritime industry, or climbing in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

ADDITIONAL TEXT, from TomW's NOAA capability statement (unedited):

He has over 20 years of experience managing and conducting marine operations, including many years focused on hydrographic surveying, marine monitoring and assessment, and commercial diving operations.

In addition to being Substructure’s president, Mr. Reis is also actively involved in the technical aspects of all of the company’s projects. He has been conducting hydrographic survey operations for more than 15 years, including many projects in the initial years that were focused on the search for historic shipwrecks.

His earlier experiences within this field led him towards the development of a high-resolution survey and mapping capability within Substructure. He was the visionary and driving force behind the thoughtful and deliberate development of our Survey Vessel Orion and he continues to develop new plans for a variety of innovative survey platforms and sensor deployment packages.

He has hosted a number of educational events over the last several years focused on the acquisition of high-resolution multibeam data and he has also been a featured speaker as part of the UNH CCOM lecture series. He has also been a two-time attendee of the UNB/OMG Shallow-Water Multibeam Course and he has participated in numerous recent hydrographic survey conferences and workshops. He has directly participated in each of Substructure’s hydrographic survey projects over the last ten years.
